Shipping Instructions

We’ve intentionally kept our incoming transfer process simple and low-friction for customers and sending dealers.

  • You do not need to notify us before shipping.
  • We do not require tracking numbers.
  • We do not restrict the types of firearms sent to us (state and federal law permitting).

Tip:  Click the Send FFL Details button to email your shipping FFL this information. This email is intended for your shipping dealer (you’ll enter their email in the To: field)

IMPORTANT:
All shipments must be sent to the mailing address listed on our FFL. Any items shipped to our physical address may cause delays or be Returned To Sender. This is a business/commercial address:

Puget Sound Firearms (PSF)
400 W Fir Street
Mount Vernon, WA 98273

Packages may be addressed simply to PSF.

  • Address package to: PSF
  • Include an invoice with the customer’s full name, phone, email, and order #
  • Include the sending dealer’s FFL (email copy or a paper copy in the box)
  • Washington State Patrol (WSP) conducts all firearm background checks

  • Minimum 10 business-day waiting period + WSP approval required before transfer.

Optional: Get a WSP Buyer Code (saves time)
Before your appointment, you can generate an 8-character buyer code through WSP. Bring the code with you and we’ll use it to help complete your background check entry in SAFE.

Note: WSP states the buyer code information is retained for up to 30 days or until it’s used.

Washington State law requires residents to complete a qualifying firearms safety training
course prior to purchasing or transferring a firearm. These certificates are valid for 5 years.

Proof of completion: Please either email us a copy of your completed course certificate
or bring a printed/digital copy with you to your background check or pickup appointment.

If you haven’t completed training, our friends at Sporting Systems offer a free, state-compliant course.

top 10 Transfer FAQ’S

Quick answers to the questions we get the most!

Answer:
Yes. All firearm transfers are handled by appointment only.

Scheduling appointments allows us to:

  • Ensure proper staffing for background checks and paperwork
  • Reduce wait times and keep the process efficient
  • Provide each customer the time needed to complete their transfer correctly

Answer:
No. You do not need to call or email before shipping. Just have the item shipped to the mailing address on our FFL and include an invoice/packing slip with the customer’s name and contact info inside the box.

Answer:
No tracking number is required. If you have it and want to keep it for your records, great — but we don’t need it to receive your transfer.

Answer:
All incoming transfers must be shipped to the mailing address listed on our FFL (commercial address):

Puget Sound Firearms (PSF)
400 W Fir Street
Mount Vernon, WA 98273

Items shipped to our physical address may be delayed or returned to sender.

Answer:
Yes. We accept shipments from non-FFLs as long as the package includes:

  • A copy of the sender’s government-issued photo ID, and

  • A bill of sale with the customer’s information.

Answer:
Please include an invoice/packing slip with: customer full name, phone number, email address, and order/invoice. This helps us check it in quickly and notify the customer.

Answer:
We’ll contact you within 24 hours of arrival to schedule the background check.

Answer:
Bring your valid government-issued photo ID, proof of WA-required firearms safety training, and your WSP Buyer Code (if applicable).

Answer:
Yes, we support NFA transfers (Form 3/Form 4). Fingerprinting is not offered at this time. We encourage all customers to obtain a digital copy of your fingerprints through PrintScan.

We make transfers easy and can accept all items that are legal to transfer in Washington.
That said, we cannot transfer the following:

  • Any firearm or item that is illegal under federal or state law
  • Untraceable / unserialized firearms
  • Large-capacity magazines (over 10 rounds)
  • Items restricted from sale in Washington State
  • NFA items without the proper ATF paperwork

If an item arrives with magazines greater than 10 rounds, the magazines will be considered abandoned property and disposed of. If an item arrives that we are unable to transfer, the purchaser will be responsible for an outgoing FFL transfer, including shipping, to send the item back to the shipper. This must be completed within 30 days, or your item will be sold at auction. In the unlikely event that this happens, you will receive 80% of net proceeds.

If you’re unsure about a specific item, contact us before it ships and we’ll point you in the right direction!
